Giorgione Serves Great Italian Pizza in New York City

Everyone loves pizza right? But maybe you are the type who wants authentic Italian pizza cooked in a real pizza oven right within the restaurant. If you happen to be in New York City, you are in luck because Giorgione does serve authentic Italian pizza (and yes, it does have an in-house wood- burning pizza oven, which explains why its pizzas are really great.) Giorgione pizza is so good that the restaurant snared the Best Pizza award from the Best of New York Awards in 2004. The respected New York Magazine also gave the restaurant a thoroughly glowing review in 2002.

People call Giorgione a SoHo Italian restaurant - which just happens to serve Italian pizza too. But its menu is not limited to just pizza; far from it, there are plenty of other great Italian dishes which you can choose from. There is the polpettine di vitello (the name translates to Sicilian-style meatballs sprinkled with raisins and pine nuts) that is priced at $20; polipetti (called grilled octopus with black olives and celery in English) that costs $14; and the fried artichokes that are dubbed carciofi alla giudea in Italian (tagged at $10.) With prices ranging from $15 to $32, Giorgione qualifies to be called a moderate to expensive restaurant. Reviews recommend that diners sample the red wine, cinnamon- baked pear, and risotto with berries (among the host of Italian comfort food on the menu.) Other features of Giorgione that stand out are its raw bar and a range of desserts that diners seem to clamor for all the time. Giorgione is also known for its weekend brunches (a specialty product being the nutella crepe), and the active bar scene - but if you would like outdoor dining as well, that option is also available at Giorgione.

Some rumors have it that owner Giorgio DeLuca is able to keep Giorgione food so good because he has made special arrangements with suppliers of key ingredients, such as lobster and the fresh produce, that only the best of the batch should be delivered to Giorgione. The raw bar has very fresh oysters (all ten varieties of them) so oyster fans are never disappointed. If you are looking for a full bar that has a great wine list, then Giorgione is the place for you - not only that, the prices of its wines are quite affordable (many of them are priced less than $40, so your budget for the evening or the day will definitely go a lot further.)

If you would like to sample what Giorgione has to offer, you can always make reservations in advance to avoid the madding crowds. Giorgione is open for service on Mondays to Thursdays (operating hours being noon to 3:00 in the afternoon, and 6:00 in the evening to 11 at night), and Saturdays (from 6:00 at night to absolute midnight.) If you drop by on Sunday, make sure you come sometime between noon and 4:00 in the afternoon, and 5:00 in the afternoon to 11:00 at night. Payment can be as credit card payments through Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. Giorgione is located at 307 Spring Street, quite near Hudson Street.
