When you speak of New York City restaurants, somehow you don't think of
barbecued food and hamburgers - usually thinking of New York City
restaurants brings to mind fine-dining restaurants with a diverse array of
international cuisine. So how come Blue Smoke has gained a reputation as a
top-notch restaurant if it serves..barbecued food?
Blue Smoke, which is found near Lexington Avenue and Park Avenue on 116 E
27th Street, serves barbecued food in its restaurant where diners are also
known to spend late hours listening to cool jazz tunes. It serves lunch and
dinner to casually-clad diners who may be power lunching or simply enjoying
one another's company while chowing down on the comfort food. Though Blue
Smoke has already attracted quite a following in the New York City night
scene and uses only the best quality ingredients to prepare its dishes, it
is able to keep prices affordable - which may explain why diners keep
coming back over and over again. If you like down-to-earth food like game
sausages that are juicy and go well with pickled jalapeno peppers; smoked
pork cubes with chilies and fat mussels barbecued to perfection; and hush
puppies and soft deviled eggs served with jalapeno marmalade, then Blue
Smoke is the place for you. And of course, let's not forget the barbecued
food such as pork and beef ribs rubbed with spices and dribbled with
special sauces; and smoked pulled pork, which have helped Blue Smoke earn
its reputation as a great barbecue joint - by New York City standards, that
is.
If you are drawn to Blue Smoke primarily because you want to sample jazz
music, then you are in luck because The Jazz Standard can be found just
below Blue Smoke and features live jazz performances. You can still order
from the Blue Smoke menu if you head for The Jazz Standard, and will find
that there is no minimum drink or food purchase policy here. Various types
of beer can be ordered from the taps, but people with a sweet tooth might
find the creamsicle ice cream floats and root beer to be just what the
sugar high doctor ordered. Luckily, if you order iced tea, refills can be
availed of on an unlimited basis.
Blue Smoke needs to be experienced for claims about its food and ambience
to be believed. Some say that Blue Smoke offers consistently good food and
service each and every time they visit. Others say that Blue Smoke leaves
something to be desired when it comes to serving authentic barbecues.
Anyway, regardless of what some might say, Blue Smoke is a nice place to
bring the whole family since it maintains a child-friendly atmosphere. It
is also a good place to bring large groups of people, such as the gang from
work or your weekend racquetball club members, to celebrate special
occasions. You can easily make reservations in advance if needed. Blue
Smoke has so much space and its wood-trimmed interiors are warm and cozy to
look at, that it makes the crowds that come to eat seem like just a natural
part of the dining experience.
