Have you ever wondered whether American-style cuisine can be combined with other forms of international cuisine - such as French cuisine, for example? Well, at DB Bistro Moderne, French and American cuisine not only intermarry but produce offspring as well, in the form of new types of dishes that emphasize simplicity in the use of high-quality ingredients and reflect the changes of the seasons.

This bistro serves food under the aegis of Gallic chef Daniel Boulud, who was inspired by the advent of bistros in Paris that are manned by chefs who rely on their classical training to develop innovative dishes. The bistro maintains a comfortable and casual atmosphere that smacks of modern touches as well. Boulud is able to infuse the youthful aspects of the New York City restaurant scene with Gallic features into the DB Bistro Moderne world. One reason to head for DB Bistro Moderne is that it is popular with many celebrities, so if you're the type to eat out in the hopes of spotting a familiar and famous face, this could be the place for you. DB Bistro Moderne is also known as a singles hang-out so if you prefer to meet up with friends and acquaintances as well as introduce yourself to total strangers, then perhaps the bistro can help you in that aspect as well. The full bar can serve to warm you up before a walk to the nearby theatre district (one of the things that makes the bistro so convenient to visit, even after the performance is over.)

Like many fine-dining establishments, quality food and service comes at quite a price. DB Bistro Moderne is no exception to this rule since it is considered an expensive restaurant to dine in. If you find high prices to be objectionable, you can request for the lunch prix fixe - where a two- course meal (inclusive of appetizer, main course and dessert) costs from $35 to $40. La carte entrees for lunch are priced at $28 to $36 while la carte entrees for after-theatre and dinner run to $29 to $36 as well. A three-course dinner or before-theater Prix Fixe costs a flat $45. Sometimes, the preparation of your food order may take a bit of time but rest assured the wait is really worth it since dishes are cooked properly and taste great. One popular item on the menu is the DB Burger (priced at $29) which has short ribs flavored with truffle and foie gras in it, and may have pommes souffls as an additional order served with it. Another recommended dish is the bistro's Alsatian-style choucroute garnie whose heaping portions prove why it is so popular with regulars. You may reserve space in DB Bistro Moderne for up to month before the day itself. Reservations can be done through the Internet or by phone. Payment options accepted are Visa, MasterCard, Diners Club, and American Express. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.
