wichcraft
Nope, that's not a typo - it really should be spelled as Wichcraft, precisely because it is not a heretical practice but rather a restaurant that is devoted to 'wiches - or sandwiches if you want the longer name for the food. Sandwiches at Wichcraft are made fresh from the best ingredients such as prime cheeses, seasonal produce, and slow-roasted meaty fillings that go perfectly with their breads so that only the best sandwiches reach the customers.

If you should be intrigued by a restaurant that concentrates its culinary efforts on making sandwiches (and developing a great reputation in New York City as well), then you should head for Wichcraft which is found within 397 Greenwich Street, at Beach Street, and features an impressively clean kitchen where the 'wiching starts every day. Upon entering this minimalist establishment, you are immediately greeted by the fantastic scent of melted cheese - and who has never been captivated by that familiar aroma? Though some sandwiches are designated as breakfast fare, such as the combination fried-egg-bacon-and-Gorgonzola sandwich, and the frittata-with-ciabatta- bread blend, they are still offered throughout the day to anyone who favors them. You can also try other offerings including the country bread (with crust) served with fontina, coppa, and Panini-pressed pork loin at one go; and the grilled Gruyere combined with rye bread slices and caramelized onions. There is also the Sicilian tuna sprinkled with lemon and shaved fennel, if you prefer. To fill those hard-teach-corners, you can order side salads and soups, cream'wiches stuffed with ganache, lemon bars, and blueberry scones as well as other additional side dishes.

Food is priced from $5.50 to $9.50, which makes Wichcraft a popular yet inexpensive place to eat. Wichcraft's New York City location is said to offer an American traditional menu of sandwiches and soups. The restaurant opens at 7 am from Monday to Thursday and closes on those days at 8:30 pm. On Friday it still opens at 7 am but closes at 6:00 in the evening. On Saturdays and Sundays, Wichcraft opens a bit later at 8:30 am and closes at 6:00 in the evening. The restaurant does serve breakfast and lunch, but you can also opt for delivery service (if you live in the area of West Side Highway to Broadway or Chambers Street to Canal Street), or simply choose take-out as a dining option. No, this sandwich shop does not allow reservations, but why would you need to do that? You can easily take your sandwiches with you back to the office or head back home to feast on them. And no, sorry, there are no alcoholic drinks (not even lite beers) sold in Wichcraft. You may pay for your 'wiches with Visa, MasterCard, Discover, Diners Club, and American Express.

Wichcraft has created such a very good reputation for serving very good sandwiches that in 2004 the Best of New York Awards gave it the Best Sophisticated Sandwich award. The same awards in 2005 granted the eatery the Our Heroes award as well. Furthermore, a write up about Wichcraft was published in Cheap Eats Guide 2006.
