Jewel Bako or "Jewel Box" is a Japanese cuisine restaurant located in Manhattan, New York City. The interior is fair and amusing, the lighting is not astonishing but fine, and the small yet intimate glittering ambiance compliments the term "Jewel", owned by this married couple, Jack and Grace Lamb back in 2001. The familiarity of sushi's and sashimi's are on its peak, lots of competitors are in business but Jewel Bako is one of the sushi bars that still stands strong and always packed up with its consumers.

Jewel Bako, being one of the most packed up sushi bar, service is sluggish but with Jewel Bako's pricelist, it is more of a fair deal. Reservations are highly recommended due to overwhelming consumers. With only street parking, Jewel Bako is open from Monday's to Saturday's at 6:30 PM until 10:30 PM. Jewel Bako serves fresh, high quality and commendable sushi in New York.

Food price varies from $35 to $95; some recommends their specialty called "Tuna toro tartare" priced in a mere $18, and "chef's omakase", at $95. They offer fabulous appetizers, sops and salads. Jewel Bako accepts all major credit cards. (Diners Club, MasterCard, American Express, Visa, Discover) With talented and energetic staff, Japanese cuisines are proudly prepared with the help of their executive chef, Yoshihihiko Kousaka - Chefs are very humble and very much willing to converse with the customers about the variety of fish and the quality of the food. Wine lovers would love to taste "Jack Lamb's sake". Jewel Bako offers a lot of wine variations but a bit pricey. [pic]

Designed by Hiromi Tsuruta, Jewel Bako with around 30 seats available, and about 6 seats with in the sushi bar, there is no question why the place is always packed up. Compared to other towering sushi empires, Jewel Bako offers one of the best Japanese restaurant experiences and gets you closest to the real Japanese themes.

The ambiance of Jewel Bako has the hip, the romantic and relaxing ambiance. If you are looking for a place where you can stuff yourself with sushi, Jewel Bako is not the place for you. They offer varieties of sushi with normal (or some may say small) portions that will take you to the real Japanese sushi experience.

Though Jewel Bako is not the most suited place for business meetings and large group of people, or a place to take your kids, it goes for a romantic night out by a dating couple.

A consumer's point of view may vary in many ways. What Jewel Bako does is to keep the consistent quality of their food in its best. The usual appearance of the owners of the place makes it even more intimate for the customers. They may even check up on you from time to time to see if you are fine with your meal. Some customers may really put their eyes on Jewel Bako's service and comments with the words "as bad as ever".

But most people who have experienced the dining at Jewel Bako gave a positive approach on how their experience at Jewel Bako goes. Food was always excellent; having fish as fresh as ever, even though the service was called "sluggish" - most of them claim, the dining experience is worth for every penny you pay.
