Strip House Proves Number 13 is Lucky After All |
|
|
|
There are many establishments nowadays that still cling to the idea that
the number 13 is unlucky and should be avoided in their establishment when
possible. This is why some condominiums and apartments do not name the 13th
floor as the 13th floor - they may skip the number 13 altogether and just
say that floor is the 14th floor. But it seems Strip House of New York has
proven that belief to be wrong - after all, it is located on #13 east 12th
Street in New York City but it has been named as one of the 25 Best
Restaurants in the city. So what does Strip House know that superstitious
people don't?
Well, for one thing, Strip House knows the traditional American way of
cooking steaks yet also adds unique French accents, which is why it is
recognized as one of the best steakhouses around. Some food that you ought
to try here are the goose-fat potatoes (priced at $8.50), the truffled
cream spinach (set at $8), and the New York strip steak (rumored to be the
best in the city) that costs a whopping $40. Prices generally range from
$23 to $74 - such prices have earned this restaurant a reputation for being
quite an expensive eating place (even by New York City standards) but
people say that the food makes it all worth their while. The owners not
only thumb their noses at the thought that their location is unlucky, they
play on the meaning of their restaurant's name by emphasizing its naughty
connotations with burlesque pictures on the interior walls and the use of
gold and red colors within (which are traditionally used by bordellos.) So
if you didn't know any better, you might think you came to sample the flesh
trade instead of the "other" flesh trade - the steakhouse trade that is.
Despite its cheeky approach to interiors, Strip House is still considered a
fine-dining establishment which serves wine and beer mostly. Cooking is
supervised by John Schenk, its executive chef.
Strip House accepts reservations online, and you can pay your way with
Visa, MasterCard, Discover, DinersClub, and American Express. It maintains
a full bar, and is quite popular among the singles crowd and various
popular celebrities who are willing to trek all the way to Greenwich
Village just to sample its meaty fare. However, smokers might find the
restaurant's no-smoking policy to be a tad inconvenient. On the other hand,
Strip House welcomes physically-challenged diners who are confined to
wheelchairs. People who arrive in their own vehicles can take advantage of
the nearby parking garage to park their vehicles while they eat. Oh, and
please don't forget to observe the casual dress code to avoid embarrassing
incidents when seeking entry to the Strip House. The restaurant operates
from 5:00 in the afternoon to 10:00 in the evening during Sundays; 5:00 pm
to 11:00 pm from Mondays to Thursdays; and 5:00 pm to 11:30 pm on Friday
and Saturday.
